The Hadith of Jibreel — Defining Iman
The six pillars of Iman were defined by the Prophet himself when Jibreel came in human form. Ibn Kathir explains that all of Allah's Prophets and Messengers are to the believers truthful and righteous, and believers do not differentiate between any of them.
The six pillars of Iman were not invented by scholars — they were defined by the Prophet himself, when the angel Jibreel came in human form to teach the Ummah their religion. This hadith is known as Umm al-Sunnah — the mother of the Sunnah — and it is muttafaq alayh (agreed upon by Bukhari and Muslim).
