The Muttaqun — Those Who Believe in Al-Ghayb

The Quran's first description of the muttaqun is that they believe in Al-Ghayb — before prayer and charity. Ibn Kathir records from Ibn Mas'ud: No person will ever acquire a better type of faith than believing in Al-Ghayb. Abu Al-Aliyah says Al-Ghayb includes Allah, His angels, Books, Messengers, the Last Day, Paradise, Fire, and the meeting with Allah.

The Quran's very first description of the believers — the muttaqun (the God-conscious) — is that they believe in Al-Ghayb (the Unseen). This quality is listed before prayer and charity, indicating that correct Aqeedah is the foundation upon which all worship rests. Al-Ghayb refers to everything beyond the reach of human perception: Allah Himself, the angels, the Jinn, divine revelation, Barzakh, Jannah, Jahannam, and the events of the Last Day.
